Daffodil sketching

This was a really difficult sketch for the children, as the daffodil has a double bloom.  Kade in particular did a great sketch, looking at it very closely, and drawing with great perspective.

Self Portraits

Last week the children drew their self portraits.  They had to think about the colour of their hair, eyes, and skin.

Steve the fireman visits for Firewise

Today we had Steve visit and talk to us about being Firewise. He is a fireman from the Hamilton Fire Service. He told us that he had been at 3 fires at Hamilton East School! He talked to us about lighters and matches - these are tools for adults only and not toys to play with. We also told him we had learnt about get down, get low, get out FAST! if there is a fire. He showed us a DVD of how fast a fire can start.

Tui Bird

We are learning a song for our Operetta that features a tui and a kiwi.  The children have spent the last few weeks exploring these birds.  We have displayed our work on Kiwis.  More sketching today, this time a Tui bird.

Firewise

We have been learning about Firewise over the last few weeks.

Mobilo Makers

Mobilo is a favourite construction tool in Room 6.  We make things long and high, with wheels, and with ladders.  There are propellors, and bits that fold up and down.  Children are deep in thought when constructing, thinking about which piece goes where.  Creativity, problem solving and perserverance are aspects of learning enhanced in this type of play.  You can read more about this at:http://www.knex.com/for-parents/benefits-of-building/

Sketching - Kiwi Bird
